Loper by Keithwormwood Loper by Keithwormwood
Female soldier riding a snow flea. She's not actually a standard bearer but of a military body that functions similarly to feudal Japan's samurai. She's part of a noble caste of individuals under a ruling Daimyo's command. The banner bears a more elaborate form of a mon (so that she can be recognized by opponents on a battlefield).

Animator's blue colerase pencil and Photoshop.

You know, scientists have developed an anti-freeze protein in fleas that allow it to withstand and operate in sub-zero temperatures.

The creature is slightly reminiscent of the land striders from "Dark Crystal". Very nice work.

I think this might be one of my favorite illustrations I've ever seen on this site. Huge fav on this one.

Very ghoulish, but beautifully rendered with a truly impressive fluency of line & delicacy of shade.
The overall effect puts me in mind of Brian Froud, Arthur Rackham & :icongreyflea:

I particularly like the glowing effect of hazy sun coming thru' the clouds... altho' the technique looks quite different to that employed in the main part of the drawing, it compliments the rest of the image most favourably.

I saw a picture in some book about future evoultion, and there was this weird elephant with legs like a snow flea. Yours is much cooler. <3

Creepy snow flea is creepy.

However, I really go for that sort of thing, so it is a plus, not a minus.

So, I guess I have to change that to:

Awesome snow flea is Awesome. ^_^

I'm sure Vaughn Bode would have been so stoked on this...(I know I am.)
[This was inspired by Vaughn and Mark Bode's "Cobalt 60" right?]
Jerome-Exlander Featured By Owner Oct 4, 2006
this is very well done
but there is something that i have to point out
the feet of the creature would let it walk in snow
creatures that walk/live in a snow cover area have large feet to keep to on the snow not up to their nick in it.
but it is very well done one again.

Very imaginative, and very well done. The shadow on the ground looks great. Aside from the well-colored subject, the shadow is probably my favorite part.

Saw this one in Spectrum... and it really stood out and stayed with me. Gives me the same feeling as the work of a little known artist named Zdzislaw Beksinski.

The beast looks a bit like Froud's land striders in "The Dark Crystal". Have you made any narratives for your characters? I'd love to see a book.

Nice! Great job on detail and texture. Love the costume, snow flea, and mounted figure. The snow-covered treee is also a nice touch.
Reminds me of NAUSICAA IN THE VALLEY OF THE WIND or something.

Creepy, but amazing drawing. :o

The creature reminds me of some strange tall long-legged creatures I saw in a Miro painting (or I think it was Miro).

In a word, amazing. I honestly think you have more potential than any other artist i've seen on DA to write a novel on all of this.. and if you have, please direct me to where I can get a copy.

Lawrence of Arabia meets feudal Japan meets Dali's temptation of Saint Anthony. Or is it Saint John? Whatever, its really, really, horribly good.

wonderful shading, detail, and realism, well as realistic as someone riding a giant flea can get, but thats why Fantasy is great :)
